Running a giveaway is easy until it is time to pick. Scrolling a thousand comments and stopping on one looks arbitrary, and viewers treat it that way. This reads the comments on any public video, applies whatever entry rules you set, and pulls names at random.
The part worth caring about is the seed. Every draw returns a short code that produced it, and pasting that code back in with the same video reproduces the same winners exactly. Publish it under your announcement and anyone who doubts you can check it themselves. Being able to prove a draw costs you nothing and settles the argument before it starts.
Entry rules cover the usual arguments before they start. One entry per person stops someone farming the odds by commenting fifty times. A required keyword lets you set a real entry condition, so a passing comment does not count as an entry. A minimum length filters out the people who only typed the word first. And where a video has more comments than the tool reads, the result tells you the size of the pool it actually drew from, so you can say so out loud.
Draw as often as you want. There is no cap on draws, no account, and nothing held back behind an email. Re-rolling is free and instant because the comments are only read once and then kept for a while, so trying a stricter keyword or a different number of winners costs you nothing and never changes the pool underneath you.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I prove the draw was fair?
- Every result comes with the seed that produced it. Publish the seed next to the winner and anyone can paste the same video and seed back in to get the same names. Without it, everyone has to take your word for it, and plenty of giveaway hosts get accused of exactly that.
- Does it read every comment?
- Up to 2,000, newest first. If a video has more, the result says so plainly. Drawing from a slice while implying you drew from everyone would make the winner meaningless.
- Can someone win twice by commenting twice?
- Not with "one entry per person" on, which is the default. Turn it off if you want repeat comments to count as repeat entries.
- Why did it find no comments?
- Either comments are turned off on the video, nobody has commented yet, or your filters excluded everyone. Replies are never included, only top-level comments.
- Is it really free?
- Free and unlimited, with no account and no card. Draw as many times as you like, on as many videos as you like. You will be asked once whether you want the giveaway wording sent over, and closing that changes nothing.
- Is there any limit at all?
- One, and it is about YouTube rather than you: reading a video’s comments for the first time is expensive, so there is a fair-use cap of 25 new videos a day from one connection. Re-drawing, changing the filters and replaying a seed all read from the copy already loaded, so they never count against it and never cost you a wait.
