Coverage
Also called: shot coverage, covering a scene
Coverage is the drama department's word for shooting a moment more than once from more than one position: a wide that establishes the room, a mid, a close-up of whoever is talking, and cutaways of whatever they are handling. With coverage, an editor trims a fluffed line by cutting to the other angle. Without it, every mistake either stays in the take or leaves a jump cut.
Solo creators get most of the benefit from a second camera running throughout plus a handful of inserts filmed after the main take, which costs about 10 minutes on the day and saves the edit repeatedly.
