Easing
Also called: ease in ease out, keyframe easing, bezier easing
Linear motion, where a value shifts by the same amount every frame, reads as mechanical, because nothing physical starts or stops instantly. Easing adds acceleration at the beginning and deceleration at the end, so a lower third slides in with some weight and settles instead of stopping dead. Software exposes it as ease in, ease out, or a bezier curve you drag by hand. It is the cheapest available upgrade to amateur motion graphics.
