Fair use disclaimer

Also called: no copyright infringement intended, copyright disclaimer

Somewhere along the way this turned into a ritual: a line in the description citing a section number, declaring no infringement intended, and asserting fair use over everything in the video. None of it does anything. Fair use is a defence argued about the circumstances of a particular use and settled by a court, and a sentence you wrote about your own work cannot decide that in advance. The disclaimer creates no licence and grants no permission. If anything it works against you, since announcing that you know the material belongs to somebody else undercuts the argument that the use was carefully considered.
