Noise Gate

Set the threshold above the background noise and below your quietest speech, and the gate opens when you talk and closes when you stop. Attack, hold and release control how quickly it moves, and getting the release wrong produces the chattering sound of a gate slamming shut on the tail of every word. Streamers use one to keep keyboard and fan noise out of the mix. Understand its limit: while you are speaking the gate is fully open and the noise is still there underneath, so a gate hides a noise problem between words and never removes it.
