Filming & Production
On-camera presence
Also called: camera presence, screen presence
Presence is the difference between a person who happens to be filmed and a person you want to keep watching. Most of it is mechanical. Look into the lens instead of at your own face in the preview, because viewers can see the difference and read screen-watching as avoided eye contact. Talk to one imagined person. Push your energy slightly past what feels natural, since the camera flattens it.
The rest is repetition. Almost everybody is stiff at the start and loosens with volume.
