Pop Filter
Also called: pop shield, pop screen
Plosives arrive at the capsule as a gust rather than as sound, and the result is a thump no amount of EQ removes cleanly. A nylon or metal screen a few inches in front disperses the air while leaving the voice alone.
Position does most of the work. The screen wants enough distance from the microphone that you speak at the screen rather than through it, and angling yourself slightly across the capsule helps as much as the filter does. A foam windshield is a different tool, built for wind outdoors, and it will not fix plosives at a desk.
