Foam handles a light breeze and softens plosives. Fur, the shaggy cover called a dead cat or a windjammer, is what outdoor recording needs, and the two are often used together. Wind noise sits in the same low frequencies as a good deal of the human voice, so filtering it afterwards thins the voice along with it, and a proper gust overloads the capsule outright. A £5 fur cover prevents a problem no plugin can fix.
