Colour correction

Correction is the technical pass. You set exposure so nothing important is clipped or crushed, fix white balance so whites read white, and match every shot in a scene so cuts stop flashing between warm and cool. Grading comes after, and that is where a look gets added. Doing them in that order saves work, since a look applied over inconsistent shots has to be fought on every cut. If you shot in a log profile, put the conversion to a standard colour space at the front of the chain, ahead of correction, so you are correcting an image that already looks normal.
