Baseline Views

Baseline views is what a video does on this channel when nothing unusual happens. Take the median of your recent uploads at a matched age, 28 days say, and you have a line worth measuring against.
Use the median instead of the mean. One runaway video drags an average upwards and leaves you disappointed by perfectly normal results for months afterwards. Match the age too, because a video published on Friday and a video published in March are not comparable at the moment you happen to look.
The baseline is the only honest denominator you have. A video at three times baseline is an outlier worth studying, whether that means 900 views or nine million.
