Monetisation & Revenue

Currency Conversion

Also called: exchange rate, FX, forex fee

Earnings are worked out in US dollars, so anybody paid elsewhere takes a conversion somewhere along the line. Two costs land. There is the exchange rate applied on the day of the transfer, and there is the margin a bank or payment provider adds on top of the mid-market rate. That margin is rarely itemised anywhere, which is how a payment that looked like a round figure in Studio arrives short. Sponsorship invoices carry the same question, so name the currency in the contract and say who absorbs the conversion, otherwise it comes out of your side by default.
