Invisible cut

The cut happens under cover of something the eye cannot track: a whip pan, a foreground object wiping the lens, a frame that goes fully black, or the subject passing behind a wall. Both halves need matching exposure, focus distance and direction of movement, or the join pops even when a viewer cannot say why. Editors use it to build a fake single take, and far more often to quietly remove a fluffed line from what is meant to look like one unbroken performance. Sound betrays it more reliably than picture, so room tone has to run across the join.
