Room Tone

Every space has a sound. A cut from that sound to true silence is audible even when nobody in the audience can name what changed. The remedy is 30 seconds of the room recorded on the same microphone in the same position, kept on its own track and laid under the gaps wherever the dialogue breaks. Grab it at the end of a shoot before anything moves. Once the set is struck you cannot get it back.
