Locked-off shot

Also called: locked off, static shot

The camera goes on a tripod and stays there for the whole take. Talking-head channels shoot this way by default because it is repeatable, it cuts cleanly against itself, and a still frame lets the viewer watch the person. It also makes visual effects easy, since there is nothing to track, and it lets a jump cut work without the two halves fighting each other. The risk is monotony over a long runtime. Editors break it up with a second angle, a slow push added in post, or cutaways, and it only reads as lazy when nothing on screen changes for ten minutes.
