Media ingest
Also called: offload, card offload, footage offload
The step between shooting and editing, and the one most likely to cost you a day's work. A proper ingest copies files and never moves them. It verifies each file against a checksum so silent corruption is caught immediately, and it lands everything in the same folder structure every single time. Tools like Hedge and ShotPut Pro exist for nothing else. The rule that matters most is two copies on separate drives before any card gets wiped, and the wipe done in-camera. Dragging files across in Explorer and reusing the card that afternoon works perfectly right up until the one occasion it does not.
