Master file
Also called: final export, mezzanine file
Export a master once, at full resolution and a high bitrate, with no platform-specific compromises baked in. Everything else comes off it: the YouTube upload, the vertical cut, the podcast audio, the client version with a different logo, the re-upload three years later when a sponsor segment has to come out. Keeping one is what stops a small change turning into reopening the project and re-rendering from source clips. Storage is the usual objection. It is a weak one against rebuilding an edit whose original footage has already been archived or deleted.
