Network-attached storage

Once a project archive outgrows a stack of portable drives, a NAS is the usual next step: 2 or more disks in an enclosure with its own network connection, reachable from every computer in the house and often from outside it. Redundancy is the reason people buy one. A mirrored or parity setup survives a single disk dying, which a shelf of USB drives does not. Treat it as a second copy of your working drive rather than the only one, because a fire, a theft or a mistaken delete takes the whole box at once, so keep one copy off-site as well.
