Reusable stream key

An encoder needs a key to tell YouTube which channel an incoming feed belongs to. A single-use key is generated per stream and has to be pasted in again each time. A reusable key stays valid, so OBS or a hardware encoder gets set up once and every later broadcast starts by hitting Go Live.

That convenience carries a security cost. Anybody holding the key can broadcast to your channel, so it should stay out of any screen share, tutorial or settings screenshot, and it wants resetting if you suspect it has leaked. Keys also bind to a set of stream settings, so changing resolution or frame rate can mean generating a new one.
