An edit takes footage somebody else made, cuts 30 seconds of it to a music track, adds colour and speed ramps, and posts it as tribute. Fandom accounts have run on this for years, and a surprising share of a show's promotion now arrives this way.
Two consequences follow. The footage and the music both belong to someone, so edits collect Content ID claims and takedowns routinely, and the accounts posting them treat that as the cost of playing. Rights holders have also worked out that edits sell tickets, which is why studios now seed clip packs and audio specifically for editors to pick up.
