Voiceover

Also called: VO, narration, voice-over

Recording apart from the filming gives you control over the room, the microphone position and the number of takes, which is why a voiceover usually sounds better than the same words captured on set. Two orders of work exist. Write the script first and cut the picture to the narration, which suits explainers and documentary pieces. Or cut the footage first and write to the timings, which suits travel and vlog material where the visuals lead. A read that feels natural in an empty room tends to land flat on playback, so most narrators push slightly harder than feels comfortable.
