Skin tones

Also called: skin tone line

Audiences forgive a lot in a grade. They forgive nothing in skin, and a green or magenta cast on a face reads as wrong immediately, even to someone who could not name what is off. The vectorscope has a skin tone line for this, a diagonal running between red and yellow, and human skin of any complexion should sit close to it. What changes with complexion is how far the trace sits from the centre. The angle stays much the same. Grade the face first and let the rest of the frame follow, then check on more than one screen before you export.
