Speaking pace

Most people slow down when a camera is pointed at them, and most of the fixes creators reach for aim at the wrong thing. Steady fast talking is tiring. Steady slow talking is worse. What holds attention is variation: quick through the setup, a pause before the point, slower on the line that matters. Read your script out loud at the speed you want before you shoot, because a script written to be read silently is almost always too dense to say. In the edit you can lift the speed by cutting gaps between sentences, though past a certain point the delivery feels airless.
