Monetisation & Revenue

Allocated revenue

Also called: revenue allocation

Shorts monetisation does not attach revenue to a single Short. Ad money from the Shorts feed goes into a pool, music licensing costs come out of it first, and what remains is divided between creators in proportion to their share of eligible Shorts views. That share is the allocated revenue. Creators keep 45% of their allocation and YouTube keeps the rest, which is the split people usually quote without the pooling step in front of it. Two Shorts with identical view counts can therefore pay differently, because the size of the pool, the music used and the countries the views came from all move the arithmetic. Views that fall outside the eligibility rules, including reuploads and unedited clips of other people's work, are stripped out before any of this happens.
