Shorts & Vertical Video
YouTube Shorts
Also called: Shorts
A Short is a vertical or square upload of up to 3 minutes, played in YouTube's swipe feed. It was capped at 60 seconds for years. A later policy update raised the limit, so any advice you read about the old ceiling is out of date. Shorts live on the same channel as your long-form work and share its subscriber count, but they are recommended through their own surface, reported with their own metrics including engaged views, and monetised out of a pooled ad-revenue split rather than from ads sold against the individual Short. Creators who treat Shorts as offcuts usually discover the feed rewards something built for it.
