Monetisation & Revenue

Content Licensing

Also called: clip licensing, footage licensing, licensing revenue

A licence grants another party permission to use your footage under agreed terms: where it runs, for how long, in what territory, and whether they can re-edit it. Money changes hands and you keep ownership. Viral clips are the obvious case, with agencies approaching creators within hours of something taking off, though brands also license existing footage instead of commissioning a shoot.

Read the terms before signing. Exclusive deals stop you licensing the same clip elsewhere and can restrict what you do with your own upload, and some agency agreements hand over the right to issue copyright claims on your behalf.
