Territory

Also called: geographic rights, territorial rights

Usage rights have three dials: what the brand can do with the content, for how long, and where. Territory is the where. A sponsor might buy worldwide rights, or the UK and Ireland only, or just the markets where the product is actually sold.

It matters because worldwide is the expensive setting and it turns up as the default in plenty of first-draft contracts, including from brands selling in three countries. Ask which markets the campaign runs in and price to that. Watch how territory combines with the other dials as well: worldwide, in perpetuity, all media is effectively a sale of the asset, and that is a different deal from a video living on your channel.
