High-Pass Filter

Rumble, handling noise, air conditioning, traffic and desk thumps all live low, well underneath speech. Rolling off below roughly 80 to 100 Hz on a male voice, a little higher on a female voice, clears them without touching anything you want to hear.

Mixers and camera menus call the same tool a low cut, named from the other end. Set it too high and the voice thins out, so use your ears rather than a number you read somewhere. Many microphones have one built in as a switch on the body, which is the easiest place to catch the problem.
