Chris Pavlovski started it in 2013, aimed at small independent creators whose clips were getting lost, and it later repositioned around free speech and drew a largely American conservative audience. It trades on Nasdaq as RUM and runs a cloud business alongside the video platform. For a creator the arithmetic matches any alternative platform. The rules are looser and the competition is thinner, while the audience and the search demand are a small fraction of YouTube's. Most people who post there post the same work on YouTube as well, which is the sane way to treat a second home.
