Shock Mount

Microphones pick up vibration as well as air. A knee against the desk or somebody walking past travels up the stand and arrives as a low thump that no amount of EQ removes cleanly. The mount breaks that path by holding the body in elastic bands. It does nothing for plosives or breath, which are air hitting the capsule and want a pop filter instead.
