Montage

Editors use it to cut past the boring middle: the build, the journey, the training, the six hours of assembly nobody needs to sit through. Music usually carries the whole thing. Cuts land on the beat, and the sequence ends on the finished thing so the payoff arrives with the final shot.

The common failure is a montage with no shape, where ten clips of the same activity in no particular order add length and nothing else. Give it a direction so each shot shows progress, keep it shorter than feels right, and make sure the shot it lands on is worth the wait.
