Monetisation & Revenue

Monthly Recurring Revenue

Also called: MRR, recurring monthly income, ARR

Count only what renews. Channel memberships, a paid community, a Patreon tier, a software subscription: each of those charges again next month without another sale, and the total is your monthly recurring revenue. One-off money stays out, so a course launch, a sponsorship and a merch drop are all revenue and none of them are MRR. Annual plans are usually divided by twelve to sit in the same figure, and ARR is this number multiplied by twelve. It matters because it is the part of the income you can plan against. Ad revenue and brand deals swing with the season, while three hundred members at five pounds a month is a floor you can forecast from.
