Mouth clicks

Close microphones and a dry mouth make them worse, so the first fixes happen before recording: drink water, keep a little distance, and angle the microphone off-axis so it is not pointing straight at your lips. Whatever survives gets handled afterwards. Editors cut each click out by hand, patch the gap with room tone, or run a dedicated de-click process, and iZotope RX is the tool most people mean when they mention this. The trap is over-processing. Aggressive de-clicking chews the consonants at the start of words and leaves speech sounding soft, lisped and faintly underwater.
