Moving average

Also called: rolling average, smoothed average

Daily views bounce around for reasons that have nothing to do with anything you did. A moving average smooths that out by averaging each day together with the days around it, then sliding the window forward one day at a time. Seven days is the common window for creator data, because it cancels the weekly rhythm of when people watch. Wider windows give a smoother line and react more slowly to genuine change. Two things to remember. The average lags behind the underlying data, and it cannot show you the first few days of a series, because there is no full window to average over yet.
