Audio, Music & Licensing

Music Library

Also called: stock music library, production music library, royalty-free library

These catalogues exist to be licensed into other people's projects, sold as a subscription covering everything in them or track by track. Epidemic Sound, Artlist and Musicbed work the first way; PremiumBeat and AudioJungle the second. The licence attaches to your account, and usually to the specific channels you register with them, so a track downloaded on a friend's login is not licensed for your channel.

Royalty-free trips people up. It describes the payment structure, meaning no ongoing fee per play, and says nothing at all about the price. Library music also still triggers Content ID claims, which is why every library asks you to register your channel before you publish.
