Preview rendering

Also called: render cache, background render, render in to out

Colour work, stabilisation, nested sequences and anything with a plug-in in front of it will stall playback. Judging pace on a timeline that stutters is impossible. Editors handle this by writing temporary video files for the affected ranges so the playhead runs at full speed, and Premiere calls it rendering in to out, while Resolve and Final Cut do their own versions quietly in the background. Those files are working copies with no bearing on your final export, so delete them whenever you like, and you should, because they fill a drive fast. Try dropping preview resolution to 1/2 first.
