Punch-in

Also called: digital zoom, jump zoom, reframe zoom

Shoot at a higher resolution than you deliver and there is room to do this cleanly. A 4K source in a 1080p timeline gives you roughly a two-times crop before anything visibly softens. The uses are practical: hide a cut in single-camera footage, cover a stumble, or tighten on a line that earns it. Overuse is the standard failure. A punch-in on every other sentence stops meaning anything, and slow automatic zooms across static footage read as filler.
