Repeat infringer policy
United States copyright law shields platforms from liability for what users publish, on the condition that they adopt and act on a policy for removing repeat infringers. Every large platform therefore has one, and on YouTube it surfaces as copyright strikes. Three strikes inside a rolling 90-day window puts a channel at risk of termination, and because the window rolls, older strikes stop counting as time passes.
Content ID claims work differently and do not count towards it. A claim affects monetisation or availability on one video, while a strike is a legal takedown filed against the channel.
