Shot reverse shot

Two cameras, one on each speaker, and the edit alternates between them. It reads as a conversation because the eyelines oppose: one person looks screen left, the other screen right, and the viewer places them facing each other without being told. Break that and the illusion goes, which is what the 180-degree rule protects against. Put both cameras on the same side of the conversation and everyone appears to be looking the same way, at nobody. For a podcast or interview the requirements are dull and unforgiving: matched settings on both bodies, matched white balance, and a wide shot of the pair to cut to when the joins get awkward.
