Text stroke

Add a stroke and every letter gets a hard edge in a contrasting colour, usually black round white type. It buys separation when the words have to sit over skin, sky or motion blur. Two strokes are common, a thin one tight to the letterform and a much thicker one further out that still reads as a solid shape once the thumbnail shrinks to phone size.
