Also called: safe zone, safe margins, action safe
Broadcast conventions gave us two margins: action safe at around 90% of the frame, and title safe at around 80%, with anything important kept inside the smaller one. Online the reason has changed while the habit stayed useful, because the threats now are the progress bar, mobile letterboxing, and the way platforms crop a horizontal frame for different placements. Vertical formats are stricter still, since captions, usernames, buttons and the description all overlay the bottom and right of a Short or a Reel. Most editors have guides you can switch on.
