Editing & Post-Production

Transcript

Also called: video transcript, caption transcript

YouTube generates one automatically for most videos and shows it under the player. Accuracy depends on audio quality and accent, so names, jargon and product names are where the automatic version falls over. Fixing those takes minutes. A corrected transcript then feeds accurate captions, gives you the raw text for a blog post or an email, and lets you find a moment in a 90-minute video by searching for a phrase instead of scrubbing the timeline. Editors increasingly work transcript-first, deleting a sentence of text to delete the footage under it.
