Vertical live stream

Also called: portrait stream, vertical streaming

Portrait live is how a stream reaches the swipe feed audience. Studio's live control room can generate a vertical layout automatically from a horizontal broadcast, so there is no second encode to run, and YouTube now supports one stream carrying unified horizontal and vertical versions that share a single chat, replacing the older arrangement of two stream keys, two links and two chat rooms.

Framing catches people out. A wide scene cropped to 9:16 loses most of its sides, so guests, overlays and any on-screen text have to be composed for the narrow frame from the start.
