Packaging: Titles, Thumbnails & Hooks

Video intro

Also called: intro, intro sequence, branded intro

Covers everything from a two-second logo sting to a full minute of context before the first real beat. Worth separating from two neighbouring terms. A hook is the reason to keep watching, which the intro may or may not contain. A cold open drops the viewer straight into the action and pushes the setup back to later. Long branded animations were standard practice a decade ago and have mostly been trimmed or dropped since. The part worth checking on any intro is whether it delivers on the promise the title and thumbnail made, because that is what the viewer clicked expecting.
