Verbal hook
Also called: spoken hook, first line
Whatever comes out of your mouth first is the verbal hook. It works alongside the visual hook and the two carry different loads: pictures hold the eye, while the line tells the viewer what they are about to get and why they should stay for it. Weak versions announce the video, welcome back to the channel, today we are looking at, and spend the opening seconds saying nothing. Strong versions land the promise the title made, or complicate it. Write it last, once the video exists and you know what you delivered, because a hook written first tends to promise the video you meant to make.
