Shorts & Vertical Video

9:16 aspect ratio

Also called: nine by sixteen, full vertical

Shot at 1080 by 1920 or 2160 by 3840, this fills a phone held upright with no bars on any edge. It is the native shape of every major short-form feed, and square or vertical uploads under three minutes can be classified as Shorts on YouTube. Composing for it takes more than cropping a widescreen edit. The safe area is narrower than the frame, since captions, the description, the like and share column and the account name all sit on top of the video, so anything that has to be read needs to live in the middle band with generous room at top and bottom.
