Shorts & Vertical Video

4:5 aspect ratio

Also called: four by five, portrait feed ratio

Four units wide by five tall, usually exported at 1080 by 1350 pixels. It is the tallest shape a standard Instagram feed post accepts, which matters the moment you take a 9:16 Short and try to post it as a feed item: something has to be cropped or padded. Keep captions and faces inside the middle of the frame while you shoot, and the same take survives both. Instagram moved its profile grid thumbnails to 3:4 in early 2025, so the crop your followers see on your profile is tighter again than the post itself.
