Shorts & Vertical Video

Auto-reframe

Also called: auto-crop, subject tracking crop, speaker tracking

Auto-reframe reads the picture, works out where the action is, and pans a vertical crop around inside the wider frame so the speaker stays centred. Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut and most repurposing tools ship some version of it. YouTube Studio can generate a vertical layout from a horizontal live stream in the live control room, which puts that stream in front of the Shorts feed without extra bandwidth. One talking head on a plain background is easy. Two people, fast cutting, or captions living near the edges will defeat it. Watch the whole 60 seconds back before publishing, because the crop is just as confident when it is wrong.
