Chat timeout
Also called: timeout, temporary mute
Moderators use it as the middle step between deleting a message and banning an account. The person can still watch and still read chat, and their ability to post comes back on its own when the clock runs out. Lengths are up to the moderator. A few seconds to several hours is the usual range.
It suits heat rather than malice: someone spamming caps, arguing with another viewer, or steering the room somewhere it should not go. A short timeout cools the rest of the chat down as well, because it makes the line visible to everyone watching without the drama of a ban.
