Editing & Post-Production

Fine cut

Also called: polish pass, final pass

By the time an edit reaches fine cut the structure is settled. What happens now is frame-level trimming, tightening pauses, placing music, finishing lower thirds and captions, and cleaning up the audio, all of it detail work on a version nobody is still arguing about.

Doing that work early is how you lose a weekend. Polishing a section that gets deleted at the structural stage is time you never get back. The discipline is leaving anything cosmetic alone until the rough cut has been approved. Then comes a final review, and the export.
