Green room
Also called: backstage, waiting room for guests
Borrowed from theatre and television, where it is an actual room. In streaming it is usually a separate space: a call in Zoom or Discord, or the backstage area built into software like StreamYard, Riverside and Restream. The guest joins there, you check their microphone, framing and connection, run through the plan, then bring them into the live feed when you are ready.
Skipping it produces the first five minutes of a stream spent fixing someone's audio in front of the audience. It also gives you somewhere to park a guest between segments, a place to brief them without the chat reading it, and a way to keep an unprepared guest off air until they are ready.
